Supporting one another
The Midlands Fibre Festival is proud to partner with Fibreshed Ireland member Woolstore in their efforts to expand their wool processing facility.
Surprisingly, in Ireland much of the yarn available is imported, while Irish-grown wool often rots away in sheds due to a lack of washing and small-scale processing facilities.
With a local woollen mill, small farmers, crafters, makers, and/or independent designers can bring small amounts of wool to be washed and carded. By increasing capacity and adding spinning to the offerings, farmers will have more opportunities to market their wool through high-value applications.
Having another mill would also mean less reliance on imported wool, reduce Ireland's textile carbon miles, and add value to our homegrown bio-fibre.

Our Artisanal Community
A Celebration of Fibre, Craft, and Skill
Come spend a day surrounded by yarn, colour, and creativity in the heart of Ireland. This festival is all about bringing fibre lovers together whether you knit, crochet, weave, embroider, spin, design, or just love yarn.
We chose a central location on purpose, so makers from every corner of Ireland can gather, connect, and share what they love. It’s a space to meet the people behind the yarn, discover new favourites, and feel part of something bigger than just our own projects. Let's build a stronger fiber community!

Athlone - The Heart of Ireland
We have chosen the Radisson Blu Hotel in Athlone as our home, perfectly situated at Ireland's geographic core.
Nestled along the banks of the River Shannon, the venue offers panoramic waterfront views and expansive spaces that serve as a bright, inviting haven for our community of makers and fibre enthusiasts.
Located in the heart of Athlone, accessing the Festival couldn't be easier.
Easy access via the N6 motorway with 140 free parking spaces, and Athlone train station just a 10 minute walk from the venue. Local bus routes stop directly in front of the hotel, too.
The Midlands Fibre Festival is being held on the main floor of the Radisson Blu, so there are no steps and level access throughout to all facilities, making it ideal for those with reduced mobility.
